The trouble is - I haven’t labeled, stored, or tracked them in any way that lets me know specifically what kind of batting they are. I make educated guesses, especially when attaching them together to make a larger batt. In this case, three remnants looked like they were the same cotton batts but while I was attaching them together, they didn’t feel the same. The joined pieces were were trimmed to 12 1/2” square before washing. After washing, it’s obvious that the two remnants are not the same batt. The top batt is a shrinky cotton batt, and the bottom batt doesn’t shrink at all. I’m so glad I did this test!!! Toronto Architecture is now getting a whole piece of one batt. Not wanting to quilt right up to the long edge of the holly leaf triangle (the seam allowances are pressed under the holly leaf fabric along the tan stars seam), I needed a way to end the green metallic outlining of the holly leaves. A defining edge with ordinary thread didn’t seem like it’d be enough and that Razzle Dazzle thread was calling to me from the holiday thread stash. Keith’s Razzle Dazzle Couch Quilting steps: Quilted the edge-defining line with dark green 50 weight cotton thread in both top and bobbin. Holly leaves and berries were outline quilted with green metallic, ending at the edge-defining quilted line. Slowly quilted the edge-defining line with a couching foot on my machine, Razzle Dazzle threaded through the couching foot (spool laying on the quilt), red shiny 40 polyester on top, red 50 cotton in the bobbin. Quilted over the Razzle Dazzle again to tidy it up a bit with a slight zigzag (hand guided) using an open toe foot and the red shiny poly on top and cotton in the bobbin. Knot and bury threads. I needed a large needle to bury the Razzle Dazzle. And I don’t always knot and bury my starts and stops - this was a bit of learning too. P.S.
