The Tile Quilt
The Tile Quilt began in February 23 and this is where we got by the end of May 23. I think this may be the most progress I’ve made on a project before the first break - at least in many, many years.
Now we’re trying to decide: are we done here? Or are we adding one or more additional borders?
June 2024: We decided we’re done here, we attached the ring border, and now we’re starting the basting and quilting stage..

The original graphic inspiration

The first pointed oval/curved diamond/bra cup shapes - they look kind of interesting all monochrome on my cutting mat but maybe we need more variety in the blue greens

Maybe they look better with a contrasting starry hexagon center - that's my desk top showing through, not fabric =)

I'm liking some printed fabrics for the starry hexagon background fabrics
Trying out fabrics for the border around the starburst hexagons

My actual pool pavers almost won the contest for background fabric

Once again, my grandfather's and father's woodworking inspired my quilt making

Pieced borders before the ring and dot applique

Let's see what the borders look like from a distance - rings only so far...

I love the deep, bright magenta - I almost left it this way but the borders aren't related enough to the middle and maybe they attract too much attention

I actually experimented with a couple other shapes before I fell back on my usual dots in the middle of the rings

The blue dots in the ring border just flatten the whole thing out - almost no added interest

See, this is why I like dots - some of the starry hexagon fabrics are also dots, but a number of new fabrics were added

Connecting and appliquing the corners

I had fun planning and creating this border but I just don't know if it's going to work...

It's funny how seeing another border can make you think the quilt was done and that it doesn't need another border
