first blog post on the new website

10 years ago, I was blogging almost weekly - basically keeping a journal of my quilting activities with some photos. I was having a blast with my journal; other people seemed to enjoy it too.

The plan is to regularly share my quilting again - and try to share in a way that motivates others to quilt, and to quilt their own way.

Let’s get started with an introduction.

From the early 1990’s to the mid 2000’s, my family met twice a year in Blythe, CA for a long quilting weekend - the small hotel conference room was perfect for our quilting retreats! And they didn’t yell at us when we pinned things to the wall =)

Both my grandmothers quilted, my mom quilts, both my sisters quilt, and my dad did some embroidery and other needle art. Initially I wasn’t too fond of my family’s traditional quilts, but then the 1990 Visions show in San Diego showed me that ‘magic middle’ of quilts that weren’t too artsy nor too traditional - and the rest is history.

Bachelor’s degree in math, Masters in Business Administration, Certified Public Accountant, State Auditor, County Finance Director - quilting was very much an escape from the other aspects of my life and quilting still is today.

I’ve been in a few books and magazines, 10+ national awards, 20+ local awards, and I’ve been teaching quilting on and off since 1994 - various piecing, color theory, machine quilting, and machine applique classes.

And now I do very much appreciate my family’s more traditional quilts.

Next Time

Each post I’ll likely share some pictures of my current project (or whatever I’m working on that week) and a little bit of what’s going in my head.

Right now, Christmas Stars for a New Day is on my table and in my machine. We’re having some border problems - I’ll share more soon.

Quilt your way!
