139,800 Stitches

Okay - so a lot has been going on and I’ve been putting off blogging - mostly because of this perfection thing I have and maybe because I’ve been a bit blah lately. I apologize. I’ll get back to at least one post every two weeks.

This post will be an imperfect conglomeration of a number of pics and some short descriptions…

Toronto Architecture is Quilted (139,800 stitches)

Two weeks ago, I finished Toronto Architecture’s quilting and I washed her for the first time. She’ll get her binding soon and maybe I’ll photograph her for for her entry into Houston! (Due by May 26 BTW - I’m reminding myself…)

Final Quilting

Last post I mentioned that you could be disappointed with me if I didn’t try something new. While I didn’t try something entirely new (I’ve used the fabric print to guide my quilting before), I’ve never tried to add dimension to aspen tree trunks before. And I’m glad I didn’t do something more boring or something that competed too much with the tree trunk fabric.

Here’s another detail picture of the quilting before to the first wash.

First Wash

Overall picture before washing:

Overall picture after the first washing - outdoor lighting. The sun was at a very low angle - perhaps too low. I should have taken the pictures an hour earlier…

And here’s the back outdoors with the sun at that absurdly low angle.

After questioning my strong preference for a washed/patina look on my new quilts, seeing the back reminded me why I love a washed quilt.

New Quilt Teaser

I’ve started a brand new quilt inspired by various retro 60’s/70’s wall paper. The first picture is the framework - it’s final (mostly). Tryouts are underway to fill out the rest of the team. There are some hopeful players, but no one else has made the team yet.

Bowling

Local Tucson Scratch Tournament (singles) - I shot a 300 in the last game of the semifinals to leap into the stepladder and then lost the first match finishing fifth.

Arizona Semi-Pro Senior Tournament (singles) - Qualified fifth for stepladder finals, won two matches and then lost the next match to finish third.

Sun City Open (team/doubles/singles) - Our team finished second in the scratch event and I cashed in a couple of the other events.

2022 Arizona State Open Tournament - I bowl this weekend with two great teams. Fingers crossed; I feel good.

Next Time

Auditions continue on the retro wallpaper quilt. We’ll finalize some choices and get more stitching done.

And I need to decide whether Toronto Architecture is getting submitted to Houston. That’ll determine how fast I get its binding on.

Quilt your way!
