Oct 23 to May 24

It’s been eight months - a lot has been going on.

  • 3 quilts finished

  • one quilt started

  • a number of bowling tournaments

  • one injury that should heal well

I’ll try to get a reasonable summary in this post. Maybe not too many details though.

3 Quilts Finished!!!

All three have been submitted to Houston to be considered for the 2024 International Quilt Festival. Fingers crossed. Graphic Flower and Nancy maybe have a reasonable chance - Sands of Time is likely just a wishful thinking gamble.

If they’re not already, I’ll get these updated in their proper sections in Quilts.

Graphic Flower

Started in the Summer of 2020, Graphic Flower was finished in March 2024 - just in time for the Arizona Quilters Guild’s 2024. At that show, Graphic Flower won it’s category (Applique), received a Judge’s Choice award, and was held for consideration for Best use of Color and Best of Show. Winning Best of Show would be very fun some day, but golly, there are a lot of good quilts out there.

Nancy

Often I let quilts sit at various stages while figuring things out or waiting for the excitement to return, sometimes for years. Nancy was too important for that. Started in September of 2023, she was finished in May of 2024.

Sands of Time

BUGS (an underground quilting bee I’m not supposed to talk about) did a hand dye day in April of 2024. I had so much fun, I started Sands of Time right away and finished Sands in May of 2024. That might be a record for me. Maybe I’m finishing quicker in my older age…

And One Quilt Started

Mod Deco Arches

Lately my quilts have started with, um, boring maybe, but descriptive titles. So far, this one is Mod Deco Arches. I’d been seeing (because I’d been looking for) a bunch of graphic 60’s and 70’s wallpaper. This is in my series of 60’s/70’s wallpaper quilts, but I’m either wrong or others didn’t realize how art deco some of the 60’s wallpaper actually looked.

I’ll talk more about the applique and quilting in a future post. Arches is continuing to interest and excite me, so it’s is moving kinda fast and hasn’t been thrown into a frustrated/deal with you later pile yet. =)

Bowling

Here’s some bowling highlights since October 2023

  • October 2023: 5th place finish in a PBA regional event (lost in the round of 8)

  • October 2023: top 10 finish in a big regional $10,000 event

  • November 2023: cashed in all 7 events in the South Point Senior and Super Senior Shootouts in Las Vegas

  • January 2024: 2nd place finish in a PBA regional event

  • February 2024: qualified 2nd in the AZ State Senior Masters but lost in the first round

  • April 2024: bowed really well in our big USBC National event - results won’t be known until July 24

  • May 2024: our team won Tucson’s only scratch league, match point on challenge pattern

  • May 2024: at a PBA regional event, I tore my adductor muscle where it attaches to my pelvis - It should completely heal but no bowling for 3 to 6 months

Next Time

Starting with Nancy, in the next few posts I’ll share details about the three quilts I submitted to Houston and also share some quilting on Mod Deco Arches.

Quilt your way!
