Toronto Architecture
Stone carvings on historic downtown Toronto Buildings inspired this design - and who doesn’t love a piped edge around their applique?

The stone wall with balls and leaves (?) that inspired the machine applique
Up to this point, my applique had been mostly very basic shapes like dots and simple flower petals - these were very fun to make
First idea to add some dimension to the weave - not quite right
Wow! the black piping around the silver applique on the left really adds depth and interest to the weave
Details of the turned-edge machine applique with piping - the blind hem stitch in the ditch between the applique and piping secures both the applique and the piping

Glue basting the piping (brushed cotton filled with one strand of yarn) to the border squares

Sometimes it just seems easier to applique a mitered corner - the 45 degree edge is turned and ready to applique to the other two borders. Um, and so, yeah, I made a border rectangle and appliqued the center into the border

Border planning... that outside green was way too dark so I went with a lighter and brighter green - and the outside green is going to be a lot narrower

Irregular length piano keys and irregular sized dots - kind of normal Keith quilting and also kinda interesting and different

Looks good hanging with its 2nd place ribbon at the 2023 Arizona Quilters Guild show
