Holly Berries and Hotel Bowling

Holly Berries

People are going to think I’m nuts, but the holly leaves and berries quilting was looking a little bland in just the green variegated thread. So bland that I was having trouble getting myself to finish them.

While quilting, I had an a-ha! experience of redoing the berries with red thread. And then I had trouble finishing all the leaves and berries because I was so excited - I wanted to go back and redo all the berries before I finished the rest of the holly leaves. Now the leaves are done and the redo of the berries has begun.

Maybe the berries are too strong, but I’m liking it a lot better.

Hotel Bowling

Five senior tournaments in seven days and I made the semi-finals in all five!!! The Jacqueline Smith Senior Sahuaro Open in the Phoenix area and the four main events at the South Point Senior Shootout in Las Vegas. I was bushed when I got home but now I can afford more fabric and thread!

Hotel Quilting

Because I made the semi-finals in each event, I didn’t have any time to work on applique shapes in my hotel room until the night before I drove home. Kinda wish I had more time to quilt, but also very glad I got to bowl a lot. And I only feel a little dorky that I was in Las Vegas for five days and didn’t gamble or chase anything else around… =)

This weekend is a local Senior/Super Senior doubles tournament in the Phoenix area. I’ve got a good partner and it should be a lot of fun.

Next Time

Resigning myself to the reality that Christmas Stars for a New Day isn’t going to be finished by the end of this Thanksgiving weekend… I’ll update you on the status of each quilting element next time. It’ll be fun working on Christmas Stars during December (what better month to work on a Christmas quilt?) and maybe it’ll be done by Christmas. ???

Quilt your way!
