Metallic Christmas Stars

Christmas Stars is beginning to feel like a quilt!!!

Enough of the stabilizing quilting is in and enough basting pins are out - parts of the project feel wonderful!

Not Just Routine Stabilizing

Sometimes my stabilizing quilting turns out to be more than just stitching in the ditch.

1/4” Quilting?

Basic quarter inch in quilting but with a little flair - mostly to reduce the starts and stops but I think it does add some interest.

More 1/4” Quilting?

I was going to stitch 1/4” inside the edge of each variable star - in a subtle dark green cotton thread. But then I thought: “Wait, this is Christmas Stars for a New Day. Let’s try something new, different, and exciting.” Twinkling star bursts came to mind as I was doing some mindless stabilizing. Then, in the pile of thread I pulled for this project, I saw the metallic green thread just waiting there… Smiling at me…

Additional Note: To help manage seam allowance bulk, I pressed a lot of the seams open when making the variable stars. Because of this, ditch stabilizing might not have been the best choice for the stars. I’ll admit I did get a little frustrated… But then, it’s so worth it when challenges help create wonderful solutions.

So Much Help

Through her disapproval, Windex is encouraging me to make better choices and execute them well. Peaches and Cream is just curious to see what’s coming next. He doesn’t yet know about the metallic green star bursts. =)

Bowling

I’ve bowled badly in my recent tournaments. This weekend is the Arizona’s State Senior Masters event. I’m correcting a couple things - hopefully the corrections are ingrained and we see improvement.

Next Time

The stabilizing quilting (1st stage) in Christmas Stars will be done - ALL the pins will be out!

Design quilting (2nd stage) ideas are floating around in my head but the piecing and applique almost stand alone; Christmas Stars may not need a lot of help from the quilting. Perhaps the next stage will just be more decorative fill work… ??? (Which is normally my 3rd stage.)

Quilt your way!
